The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the formal process for adults who wish to become Catholic; in some cases, seeking Baptism. Once accepted as a candidate for RCIA (Baptism if required, Confirmation and Eucharist), the candidate is introduced to the family of families and becomes known as a catechumen. There is no set programme as the formation depends on the background and circumstances of each catechumen. Usually the formation process lasts several months.
